Velda Johnston was raised and educated in California, but lived most of her life in New York. She and her husband divided their time between an apartment in Manhattan and a nineteenth-century house on eastern Long Island. 

In her writing, Velda Johnston provides examples of young women who seek happiness and fulfillment in a more assertive, independent manner than have the women of the previous generation. Her work, both fiction and nonfiction, has appeared in scores of magazines here and abroad.
