Science Fiction writer Roland Green was born in 1944 and grew up in Pennsylvania. He received a B.A. from Oberlin College in Political Science, then moved to Chicago to attend the University of Chicago from which he received an M.A. in International Politics. He married fellow writer Frieda A. Murray and they have a daughter.

Green has worked as a full-time writer and reviewer most of the time since he sold his first novel, Wandor's Ride, in 1973.
