L. Sprague de Camp
1907-2000
L. Sprague de Camp (1907-2000) authored over 120 science fiction and fantasy books, including his humorous “Compleat Enchanter” stories. His time travel classics LEST DARKNESS FALL, “Aristotle and the Gun” and RIVERS OF TIME remain in print.
Among his numerous nonfiction works are THE ANCIENT ENGINEERS, GREAT CITIES OF THE ANCIENT WORLD and a biography of H.P. Lovecraft.
In later years he collaborated with his wife Catherine on several books such as CITADELS OF MYSTERY and DARK VALLEY DESTINY: The Life of Robert E. Howard. The author was a scholar of the ancient world, spoke several languages, had advanced engineering degrees, and was generally considered a true Renaissance man. Sprague and Catherine de Camp were frequent Guests of Honor at conventions.
