Leigh Brackett (1915-1978) was a prolific author, anthology editor and screenwriter. Her first published science fiction story was “Martian Quest” (1940); her hard-boiled mystery novels NO GOOD FROM A CORPSE, AN EYE FOR AN EYE and THE TIGER AMONG US established her as an important writer in this genre. Her fantasy and science fiction (e.g. THE LONG TOMORROW, THE BIG JUMP and her Eric John Skraith novels) made her an important figure in that genre as well. Her screen credits include THE BIG SLEEP, RIO BRAVO, THE LONG GOODBYE and THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK. She was married to writer Edmond Hamilton. |
